Our history English | Português
The American Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit entity that brings together Brazilian and foreign companies covering all sectors of the economy.

It was founded on April 16, 1916, by American companies that arrived in Brazil and soon perceived that entrepreneurial efforts would require a modern infrastructure in support and services on foreign soil to facilitate commercial partnerships.

Among the founding companies that continue in Brazil to the present day are American BankNote, Citibank, Chevron Brasil, Elevadores Otis, Esso Brasileira de Petróleo, General Electric do Brasil and Unisys Brasil.

The American Chamber of Commerce has as its main activities, promotion of events, courses, commercial missions, participation in fairs, introduction of its associates to possible business partners, networking, interaction with government authorities and technical information, on the most varied entrepreneurial affairs.

It is one of the largest entrepreneurial entities in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, financed solely and exclusively through its associates’ contributions, independent of any governments.

It is affiliated to the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA), with headquarters in Washington, which in turn is a part of the US Chamber of Commerce, the largest private entrepreneurial entity in the world.

The Chamber operates through its Thematic Committees, which have chairmen appointed annually by its members.
